A Clinical Psychologist is a highly trained mental health professional who conducts psychological assessments to evaluate an individual’s mental health and determine the best treatment approaches. Once the assessment is completed, they work with clients to develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to their needs.
Victoria works predominantly from a Cognitive and Behavioural framework. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented type of psychotherapy that focuses on changing negative patterns of thinking and behaviour to improve a person’s mental health. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are interconnected, and that by changing one of these components, we can effectively change the others. CBT is usually conducted over 6 to 20 sessions, although this can vary depending on the person and their needs. Overall, CBT is a highly effective form of therapy that has been extensively researched and shown to be helpful for a wide range of mental health issues.
Victoria has recently been trained in advanced Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR is a psychotherapy technique designed specifically to treat trauma and PTSD.‘Stuck’ traumatic memories are processed through a series of eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, such as auditory tones or tactile sensations, guided by a trained therapist.
The person is guided to effectively reprocess the memories which reduces the distress associated with them.
